Creating a new play by post game

Greetings one and all,

I am interested in starting up a new play by post game session to be a weekly posting on this forum.

I will have a map ready very soon for the place.

The area is the Plains of Lashon in Frinth.

FYI the game should be kicking off within a month after the release of the map for the adventure area and the article on the website.

Would you be wanting us to create a pantheon, a loose alliance, or just grab power and form alliances wherever we can once play starts?

What happened to this?

Right now I want to know how many weekly or biweekly players we would have? Can I get some dedicated players? I would like to do something but it would suck having one person show up. I see some posts but nothing solid within a month's time span.

If you want to do a Play by post game on a weekly basis based on the Plains of Lashon map say Aye and that you can commit to a sunday weekly reply. If I can get three Ayes then it is on.

Who is in favor of a pantheon? Or would you want to just do a loose alliance and not share possible enemies?

I would like for each of you who said aye to write down your god's name and primary/ secondary domains.

After this we can move on to working on set up and see where you guys are on the map and get your character sheets done. You can create an additional account here with the name of your god and do a character sheet on the forums. There is an option for this.

Do +you+ have any preference for whether we work closely together as a pantheon, or are just allies? Doing something the GM is interested in generally strikes me as a good idea, in a game.


For fields of interest... I'm inclined towards knowledge, planning, and perhaps communication and oaths: the core idea being that "words are power", or the like. Probably specialising in Control (for creation or alteration of memories and thoughts) and in opposition to Destruction.

For origin... I was thinking of an ancestor-spirit, looking after a group of refugees from a more civilised area, who're having to learn from scratch as they attempt to build a new society.

But I'm certainly open to guidance.

Honestly it is up to you guys. But I would recommend a pantheon.

I would also recommend one player with a martial aspect as there will be conflict.

I like your domains and if used well you can pull off some really neat miracles.

Expect lots of conflicts and battles, not just with followers or raw power, but ideas.

Will this be a real time game where we set aside a few hours on a Sunday, or a play by post during the week on the forum?

If you don't mind holding my hand for character creation I will join the pantheon for Sunday gaming if it is after 8pm EST.

If we're possibly going to be getting new players signing up, I was wondering if an allaince - rather than a formal pantheon for a single big tribe - might make sense. It might be easier to add new characters to a slightly looser structure than it would be to 'discover' new members of a pantheon....

But I'm quite willing to be guided by Fate.

For my domains - I was hoping that "planning" might be of some use with strategy. And if that would be pushing a secondary domain too far, then Knowledge as a primary domain should cover things like ripping the enemy's own plans from their minds.


Would we be freely choosing location(s) to start in, or is there a particular region of Lashon we should be looking at?

As stated before Exile, it is up to you guys. I would like to see you three/ four discuss this. Everyone's imput is valid.

I would also like a group consensus on where you guys would like to start. If I hear nothing by next monday I will find an area in the plains of Lashon to plop you guys down in.

This should be a play by post type of game which is slower paced and not live. I wish I could do it live but that would take too much time IMO.

The way it will go is I will post my scenarios on friday. You guys post on sunday and I reply to anything immediate by monday. Then we start it all over again.

I would like this to be a habit, a small one that is fun to boot

BTW Exile, I like the idea of Knowledge, but I must tell you that your god will not start off being all knowing. He will know everything your tribe knows (resource wise) and can cast miracles to gain knowledge quickly. Now whether your people catch on quickly is another matter.

Oh, I wasn't expecting to be omniscient, any more than a Weather god would have global command of the climate.

Nor am I going to claim that playing a deity of Planning should give me a right to be told what our enemies intend to do.


For Resource - I should really take Writing, given the intent to be a knowledge-based tribe from a more civilised region. I'll certainly be looking to develop some others as quickly as I can!


Anyone else had any thoughts for charcters as yet?

For location... I'm torn between a few options.

Gohai would seem an obivious origin for my own group of followers, so not being too far from there would be appropriate for me - and it looks like an interesting city in any case.

Would somewhere pretty much under the words "Central Plains of Lashon" fit? It'd leave us open to interact with a number of the places of interest - and if we're feeling very ambitious indeed, we could look to expand Westwards to the coast at some point.

For my god:

I'm thinking of playing a god of surivival, nature, cunning and vision. Essientially I like the idea of a swamp-god who clawed his way out of Fogbottom Basin. Given the environment he and his followers initially thrived in, he'd be very much a survivalist god who rewards those who show cunning or resourcefulness in hostile environments with food, visions and power.

Primary Domain: Survival (I see my god as rewarding those who survive ordeals. Hence his primary domain should encompass both aiding people in hostile circumstances and in setting up ordeals to survive)

Secondary Domains:
Dreams, (Sends visions and revelatory dreams to the faithful)
Fertility, (Grants the rewards of life and survival even in the harshest conditions)
Nature, (his powers embody the natural world)

The central planes are great for me. I have an image in my head of my god originally coming out of Fogbottom Basin and emigrating out into central Lashon with his nomadic tribes.

That is a great start. I would like to hear from the other two players in the game.

Guys, go ahead and make up your alternate accounts on the forum with the god's name for the poster's name.

Lets see if we cannot get this started by this friday May 21 if we can get the other two players to post.
