Legendary artifacts--what is a Nimbus?

I couldn't find an explanation in the text itself. What does a Nimbus do?

A Nimbus is essentially a divine protective aura, similar to the protective force shields of so many science-fictional starships. It's described in the Celestial Gardens book, in the appendix The Art Of Miracle Casting.

Okay, so basically anything that hits the artifact, its wielder, or a deity with this Miracle active has to get past the Nimbus to do any damage? I assume the die is only rolled if the opposing side attacks. And I assume that just about any Miracle is going to bounce if defeated.

On a side note: I was wondering if/when the huger die types were going to be added in. Now I know. Pretty sweet Artifacts book!

And now I have the Celestial Garden sourcebook, and all has become clear.

This does add some pretty sweet options to the game.
