“It’s good being a God. My brother and I have been demons for some time now and I’m finally relieved from having to watch out for those bloody grapplers. Fate made a real horror when he brought those into existence…” I was walking with my Darkling minion in my celestial abode when I said this. I felt compelled to speak to someone and my brother K’az was away leading his followers to join up with mine. Whatever the reason, my Darklings were very good listeners—probably because they rarely talk—and I had yet to develop a way to get any intelligent followers to my home. I live at the edge of Everwinter where the snow meets the abyss. It is such a peaceful place, the beautiful and still snow meeting the nothingness. Ah, home— “Since my ascension, I have not had to worry about those things dragging my brother or I back to that blasted well of souls.” My voice was filled with revulsion at the thought of those monsters. They swallow spirits whole, kicking and screaming, It’s a terrible thing to watch.

“I’m not sure how my followers would take it if they knew my brother and I were demons, but that is not for them to worry about. I help them with their existence, and they fuel mine. That is the natural order of things.” I was secretly proud of the fact that I was a pure soul. I had never had to suffer through the trappings of mortality. I see no reason why I should be subjected to exist in a lesser form than I do now, or ever had existed in. Human was just a step above animal—though I’m sure my brother would argue the point if I ever told him that.

“Well, little one, as you have probably noticed by now, I have settled my tribe in the land of Rothena. Their home is lush and near the bounty of the sea, and there are natural caverns nestled among the cliffs over the natural harbor. I can furnish those caves to give my villagers a place to live—it has such a lovely view of the sunset. Already I have sent my priests a dream revealing both the caverns’ location and my brother’s people’s arrival. Sometime in the summer, K’az will manifest and has asked me to await this moment before I make the cliffs mine. We can wait a season.”

Walking in silence for some time, the Darkling finally perks up his little head in curiosity and asks—a dark voice, deeper than the very shadows, echoing through the depths of my realm— Are there any other gods in the area?

My Darklings are rather intelligent creatures. I picked likely souls from the celestial gardens—souls I felt would enjoy an escape from the trappings of mortality—and shaped them to my whim, beings made of solid darkness. The majority of them were about the size of young humans. I gave them small antenna extending from there heads where the ears should be. These antenna vibrate furiously when they are agitated, or experiencing other intense emotions. Before the transformation, most of the souls that fit my purposes came from the Orchard of Knowledge and Reason or the Herbal Garden of Trust— I might take another stroll through the other celestial gardens sometime, but the sheer multitude of corrupt souls I had to turn away during my previous endeavor was disheartening.

“Glad to know you aren’t just listening for my sake.” I murmur darkly before continuing. “The other gods seem to all be from human stock…except for the Tide-walker. He seems new enough to be a wildborn as I do not sense that he has existed long. From what I can tell, he enjoys sending snakes to do his bidding. He could also be a potential ally in the future.”

“After him is the lovely Midwife, she is a healer, which is something I, Lord of Oblivion, do not handle well. My brother may give her a run for her money, although abundance is not quite the same as healing— it would probably be better to stay on the good side of the Child-bearer.” We reach the end of the hall, Open the door, and walk out into the haunting moonlight of my eternal night. The bright reflection of the moon illuminating the snow laden plain overall enshrouded by my consuming darkness—such a beautiful sight to look out upon.

“After her comes the patron of pleasure. All he seems interested in is a good ‘roll in the hay’ as my followers say, and after that roll—a brawl. I believe that even by human standards, that is an odd combination of emotions to group together. Nevertheless, I will probably see what I can do about procuring a good set of meat-shields—I do mean solders—for the future. He has loudly proclaimed that the slaver city to the south is an abomination and must be wiped from existence…” Sighing in sadness, I continue, “…and while I may be the lord of nonexistence, I do not relish the thought of using my oblivion on living creatures. If the Paragon of Lust wishes to engage them, that is his business. But if that village keeps its peace and leaves my followers alone, I wish them no ill …for now.”

Walking on air above the snow, I trace the edge between the abyss and my domain as I speak. “Last, and perchance least, is the God of Innovation. So far, all he has done is blow a hole in the ground—and in an inefficient manner, too! Beyond that, he seems to be a hate monger who wishes to pelt followers of other faiths with large wooden chairs—definitely someone to be wary of, if for no reason other than his… stupidity…” I try to find the right word and obviously fall short.

My little Darkling supplies, Intolerance? Lord Xion… Have I mentioned they are helpful?

I don't think we're strong enough to deal with a city. Nor will we be for quite some time. But I have no desire for my people to be hunted down and captured as someone else's beasts of burden--I have no fondness for slavers.

Been the Hunter, been the Hunted. Hunter is better.

I'm with the Lusty One in this matter--though I think we need to be cautious, take our time, gather our strength, and get it right.

Wow,

It looks like the campaign is really shaping up.

I especially like this part:

Quote:

"My Darklings are rather intelligent creatures. I picked likely souls from the celestial gardens—souls I felt would enjoy an escape from the trappings of mortality—and shaped them to my whim, beings made of solid darkness. The majority of them were about the size of young humans. I gave them small antenna extending from there heads where the ears should be. Enabling people to express their creativity is why I made this game.
