If you want to be one of those wearing a black tie at the North West Construction Awards 2010 you'd better get a move on as only a few are left.
Held on the 27th of May at the Southport Theatre and Convention Centre, the event will take a run through the best of the industry over the past year looking at the achievements in the north-west of England with the leading prize for project of the year having four nominations - Liverpool Canal Link and Pier Head Public Realm, Liverpool Science Park ic2, Manchester Joint Hospitals Project and Sir William Stanier Community School.
Interestingly, this is typical of many of the nominations that show a general lack of private projects compared to previous, healthier years giving an idea of how dependent the industry has been on public funds to keep it going through what has been the deepest recession since World War 2.
Although lacking the high-profile of national awards, the North West Awards have established themselves as part of the local industry calendar, and proven well attended with a mixture of politicians and business leaders as well as those who work in the business.
This year it will be presented by Granada TV's Lucy Meacock with a theme set around the idea of a Parisian Masquerade Ball although just how Moulin Rouge this is going to be remains to be seen.
If you want to get one of the remaining tickets they will cost you £120.00 each. They can be acquired from
